Chu: 'Lax' Gun Laws Caused Newtown Shooting (Video)

America needs tighter background checks and a ban on extended ammunition clips, Chu says.

Rep. Judy Chu (D-El Monte) has put a call out for stricter gun laws.

The Congresswoman, whose district includes Arcadia, along with several other San Gabriel Valley cities, addressed the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

"The tragedy at Sandy Hook happened because we turned a blind eye to our lax gun laws and the carnage they permit," she said. "It's time to change those laws before another mall, school or movie theater is turned into a crime scene."

Watch Chu's address in the attached YouTube video.

Chu demanded tighter background checks and a ban on extended ammunition clips, which can hold as many as 20 or 30 bullets at a time.

What do you think? Should we tighten our gun laws, ban guns altogether or leave our laws alone? Tell us in the comments.

i have been reading a lot about SSRI antidepressants and their role in these incidents of school violence.most people, gun owners and anti-gun activists can agree that this is a recent phenomenon. all i hear is the same argument, somewhere between arming children and banning all weapons,do some research yourself and see when these school shootings started and when they started giving SSRI's to children, you might find yourself with a new perspective on this.
