Chu: 'Lax' Gun Laws Caused Newtown Shooting (Video)

America needs tighter background checks and a ban on extended ammunition clips, Chu says.

Rep. Judy Chu (D-El Monte) has put a call out for stricter gun laws.

The Congresswoman, whose district includes Arcadia, along with several other San Gabriel Valley cities, addressed the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

"The tragedy at Sandy Hook happened because we turned a blind eye to our lax gun laws and the carnage they permit," she said. "It's time to change those laws before another mall, school or movie theater is turned into a crime scene."

Chu demanded tighter background checks and a ban on extended ammunition clips, which can hold as many as 20 or 30 bullets at a time.
