AHS Drama Students Top National Competition

The ensemble cast of "Oklahoma!" took the top prize at the Musical Theatre Competition of America.

The Arcadia High School Theatre Department solidified its reputation as one of the top drama programs in the nation with a first place win at the Musical Theatre Competition of America.

The competition, which took place Sunday in Anaheim, drew participants from across the United States.

Arcadia students performed scenes from their upcoming spring production, to snag a first place win in the MTCA's High School Intermediate Ensemble category. Gabriel Rousset and Ariana Raygoza, who play the lead male and female roles in "Oklahoma!", accepted the trophy on behalf of the cast.

“We have an extraordinary group of students in our award winning Theatre Department, and we are all very thrilled to have won first place in this national competition," Arcadia High School Theatre Director Steven Volpe said. "Our students once again made proud.”

The program also received awards in other categories; Nick Munoz won Best Solo for a High School Senior, while Keith Harmel won Best Solo for a High School  Junior. The students responsible for designing the costumes for "Oklahoma!" took the top prize in the competition's Costume Design category.

The Arcadia High School Theatre Department will perform "Oklahoma!" on March 22, 23 and 24, as well as March 29, 30 and 31 at the Little Theatre on the Arcadia High school Campus.

For tickets you can go to www.arcadiastage.com and you can also purchase them at at 7 East Huntington Drive in Arcadia on the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue.  Students and Seniors tickets cost $10, general admission is $15 and VIP reserved seating is $25. 

You can also purchase tickets for opening night at the Arcadia Community Theatre and at the Monrovia Community Center.
