Arcadia Tennis Coaches to Retire

Jerry Dohling and Gary Patchett announced their retirement Wednesday.

The duo who grew Arcadia High School's tennis program into an unstoppable San Gabriel Valley juggernaut will soon end their reign.

Jerry Dohling and Gary Patchett will retire at the end of the girls' team playoff run, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

According to the newspaper, neither the Apaches girls' nor boys' programs have lost a Pacific League game in four years, and the boys' team elevated the Pacific League into the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 grouping.

"It's time," Dohling told the newspaper. "There are a lot of seniors on this team and their are other things to do. I had to go to the school every day."

Dohling, who retired from teaching two years ago, coached at Arcadia for 41 years. Patchett has served as the assistant tennis coach for 20 years.
