Wear Pink Rally to Support Arcadia Unified School District

Parents and concerned citizens will be meeting in the Arcadia Public Library parking lot, and at most of the public school sites to show support for teachers and staff who have received pink slips in light of recent budget cuts. The plan is to raise awareness of the ongoing state cuts to the Arcadia Unified School District, and to solicit volunteer and financial support for the district thought the Arcadia Educational Foundation. Parents and students will participate in “Wear Pink Day” on March 15, by passing out flyers and holding signs on the sidewalks during pickup.  The goal is to educate more parents and community members about the crisis Arcadia schools are facing because of budget cuts and how parents can show their support of Arcadia schools by donating to the Arcadia Educational Foundation (AEF).  100 students at each middle school will wear pink shirts with "AEF $upport$ Our Schools" to spread the message.

Dana Middle School (1401 S. First Avenue, Arcadia) – students will rally in the courtyard at 7:45 am, parents will line First Avenue and Santa Anita 2:30-3:00pm.  Contact person:  Lisa Brock, 626-353-0134.

First Avenue Middle School (301 S. First Avenue, Arcadia) – students and parents will be on the sidewalks around the school, along California, Diamond, First and Santa Anita Avenues from 2:00-2:30pm.  Contact person: Vicky Stiles, 626-222-1078.

Foothills Middle School (171 E. Sycamore Avenue, Arcadia) – rally will be on Sycamore 2:20-3:10pm.  Contact person: Lan Nguyen, 626-712-3295.

Additionally high school and middle school students plan to attend the Arcadia City Council meeting on March 15 to further publicize the need to support Arcadia public schools during this state budget crisis.

Arcadia Educational Foundation was founded in 1981 as a nonprofit organization and is operated by community volunteers in order to provide funding to enhance Arcadia Unified School District programs. AEF works in partnership with AUSD to identify high value funding opportunities in need of support and provides funding directly to the District to support those activities.
