'Oklahoma!' Drums Up Community Support

A banner hangs on Huntington and First advertising Arcadia High School's upcoming spring production.

launched a campaign to promote its spring musical "Oklahoma!" with a 35-foot-by-5-foot banner above Huntington Drive and First Avenue.

Several community members, including , lent their support by attending the banner hanging; Rose Hill Memorial Park and Mortuary paid for the banner itself.

"Oklahoma!" which opens March 22, will be the school's 250-seat Little Theatre's swan song. AHS will host its fall production at the new $25 million .

“Thanks to Measure I, the new performing arts center now under construction at the high school will create opportunities for many more community partnerships to help the theatre department provide Arcadia with top quality entertainment,” Kovacic said in a media statement.

Principal David Vannasdall praised the theater department.

"The AHS Drama Department directed by Steven Volpe brings a very sophisticated theater experience to a high school stage," he said in a written statement. "The students are dedicated young actors with a passion for performing. This presentation of one of America's favorite musicals, 'Oklahoma!', will leave audiences of all ages tapping their feet and singing along."

"Oklahoma!" performances run at 7 p.m. March 22, 23 and 24 as well as March 29, 30 and 31.
