2011 MLB Draft: UCLA Righty Gerrit Cole Top Pick in First Round Dominated by Pitching

Cole's UCLA teammate Trevor Bauer snagged by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the third overall pick.

The 2011 MLB Draft is currently underway, and baseball fans have a variety of viewing options.

For those tracking the action from home, MLB.tv is offering a live stream of the draft on their website starting Monday and broadcasting all the way through Wednesday when the draft finally winds down.

Already, two local Southland players have made their way into the mix, with UCLA pitcher Gerrit Cole headed to the Pittsburgh Pirates as the first overall pick, and fellow Bruin Trevor Bauer snagged by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the third overall pick, according to MLB.com.

Locally, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected Stanford left-handed pitcher Chris Reed with the 16th pick.

In a draft without a heavily-hyped phenom such as Bryce Drew or Stephen Strasburg, teams are loading up early on pitching prospects. Overall, 18 of the first 28 picks have been pitchers.
