Apaches Baseball and Softball Squads Look Forward to Successful Year
The Arcadia baseball seeks to win another Pacific League championship.
The Arcadia baseball and softball programs have been known for years as being either the team to beat or one of the teams to beat in the Pacific League.
That won’t change this season, as both programs look solid once again.
The Apaches went 22-4 overall and 14-0 in league last year in baseball under coach Nick Lemas, who enters his fifth season.

Arcadia has a strong pitching staff led by senior K.J. Edson, who went 8-1 a year ago and will be counted upon to be the Apaches’ ace. Junior Erik Trask will be the No. 2 starter and also will spend time in center field.
“We expect to contend for our title again,” Apaches assistant coach Gabe Hyatt said.
The Apaches also return third baseman Haram Park and shortstop Tyler Dominguez. Park is expected to be a dangerous bat in the lineup.
Junior Brendan Campbell is expected to take over the catching duties, but he is out injured to start the season.
Junior Darren Kerfoot is another solid pitcher as is 6-foot-4 Trevor Gleason, who will spend time at first base.
“Our strength is going to be our pitching staff,” Hyatt said. “Pitching and defense is going to be our strong point. If we can score some runs, we’ll do well. Our main goal is to win some games in the playoffs this year.”
Softball
The Apaches were a little down last season, going 11-12 overall and 7-6 in league.
But fourth-year coach Megan Leahy is optimistic about improving.
“I am really looking forward to this season because we are a young team with lots of potential,” Leahy said. “Our goal is as always to do well in the Pacific League and to advance to CIF.”
One strength for the Apaches will be the pitching staff. Arcadia returns sophomore Kenzie Grimes, who will also see time at first base.
The other pitcher Leahy will be able to count on is freshman Yeram Park, who will also see time in the outfield.
Senior third baseman Blaire Barcham is expected to give the squad some veteran leadership.
