Santa Anita Derby Day 5K to Shut Down Baldwin Avenue Saturday Morning

Due to the annual Santa Anita Derby 5K Walk and Run, Baldwin Avenue from the 210 Freeway down to Huntington Drive will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

Santa Anita officials said that Gate 8, which also provides an entrance to Westfield Santa Anita Mall, will be closed to vehicles as well. 

Locals wishing to grab breakfast and coffee at Santa Anita’s Clockers’ Corner should enter through Gate 5, which is located on the east side of the track near the intersection of Colorado Place and Huntington Dr. Gate 5 will open at 5 a.m. to accommodate visitors.

Those interested can still register for the Derby Day 5K using cash or check Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Promenade at Westfield Santa Anita. Runners can also register using cash or check Saturday morning on-site starting at 6:30 a.m.

Racers will get free parking and admission to the Santa Anita Derby, arguably the biggest race of the year at the track, following the 5k. Post-race there will also be a party in Santa Anita’s infield with live music from Kelly’s Lot, food, and a beer garden.

Here’s the tentative schedule for Saturday’s Derby Day 5K:

 6:30 a.m. - Day of race registration opens - Cash or check only
7:45 a.m. - Master's 5K Race (40 and over)
8:15 a.m. - Open 5K Race (39 and Under)
8:20 a.m. - 5K Walk
8:30 a.m. to Noon - Entertainment, Music, Food (Infield)
9:30 a.m. - Kids registration opens in infield.
9:30 a.m. - Kids' 6-Furlong Race and Homestretch Dash 10-12 year olds (Infield)
9:45 a.m. - Kids' 6-Furlong Race and Homestretch Dash 7-9 year olds (Infield)
10:00 a.m. - Homestretch Dash (6 & under) (Infield)
10:00 a.m. - Awards Ceremony (Infield)
Noon - 5:00 p.m. - Thoroughbred Racing at Santa Anita Derby Day
2:45 p.m. - $750,000 Santa Anita Derby (time subject to change)
