What to Do at the LA County Fair, Sept. 22

Participate in Cal Poly Pomona Day and more as the Fair kicks off the weekend.

They are beginning the countdown to the end of the Los Angeles County Fair. Here’s a list of programs and deals for today Sept. 22. More information can be found at fair’s website. www.lacountyfair.com.

Today’s hours: 10 a.m. – midnight 

Today’s Deals:

  • Cal Poly Pomona Day. Students, faculty and staff receive one free admission. Alumni will receive half-price admission. Coupon or voucher required for all college day discounts. Participants are encouraged to wear school colors.
  • Season Pass. presented by Walgreens, $24.99 for ages 6 and older at participating Walgreens
  • Ralphs Any-Day Tickets. admission tickets $10 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12, comes with exclusive unlimited carnival ride wristband ($35). Restrictions apply. Presented by Ralphs.
  • Costco Savings Pack. $54.99 for 4 any-day tickets, one parking pass and 44 carnival ride/game tickets. At participating Costco store.
  • Children 5 and younger are free every day

Today’s Top Things To Do:

Old School Soul Jam - The “Jam” consists of legendary Rose Royce, dance group Heatwave, soulful Lenny Williams and Grammy-winning Evelyn “Champagne” King. The artists will be performing as part of the End of Summer Concert Series. A limited number of free general admission tickets will be available beginning at 3 p.m. at the ticket kiosk on Rose Lane. Reserved seats are available at ticketmaster.com and the Fair box office. 7:30 p.m.

Car Show - Catch the California Classics Car Show at Fairplex Park. Thirty classic cars will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tablescaping - Discover how to make your dinner table look fabulous with Tablescaping with Pottery Barn. Noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Located in the Village on Broadway.

Harvest of Praise Gospel Festival - National and regional Gospel recording artists from the world famous House of Blues Sunday Gospel Brunch present soul-stirring, house rocking gospel at its best. At the Coca-Cola Stage, 5 p.m. – midnight.

Thor - Thor is one of several powerful ancient beings who, upon being given a hammer enchanted with powerful magic, was declared the greatest warrior of Asgard. Meet the superhero in America’s Kids: A Living Library of Fun. 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Wine Classes - Wine expert Chris Braun hosts three classes in the Wine & Spirits Marketplace – Bonjour: Wine & Food of France, 2 p.m.; Wines of Germany 4 p.m.; and Wines of the Mediterranean, 6 p.m.

Timber Mountain Slide - Check out the brand new giant slide, built right into Picnic Hill.  

GENIUS, A Celebration of American Innovation – Open daily. This new, museum-quality exhibit celebrates America’s rich history of intellectual accomplishments. GENIUS comprises nearly 50 influential inventors and innovators from America’s past, including Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, George Washington Carver and Steve Jobs.

The Great American Wild West Show – Open daily. Watch the wild kings of the West as they show off their superior skills in all things exciting from the frontier.

Floral classes - Take in one of several flower and plant seminars in The Atrium at the Flower & Garden Pavilion. Classes include Pruning Roses and Fruit Trees by Mike Gordon, 2 p.m.; Using Your Compost Tumbler to Mix your Own Potting Soil by Mike Gordon, 3 p.m.; Creating Simple Floral Designs by Ray Tucker, 6 p.m.

Animal Encounters – Open daily. At Mojo’s African Safari, meet Barcode and Stripes, the Safari’s resident zebras, at Zebra Crossing and Mojo’s cold-blooded friends – snakes, lizards, gators and other reptiles – in Spike’s Reptile Territory. Creepy crawlers, including tarantulas, spiders, centipedes and more, are waiting in Iggy’s Insect Encounter.
