Help or Yelp?

“Here come the Judge.” That was actually the name of a song years ago. Meaning also that not everyone held that title. Times have changed though, seems nowadays just about anyone who chooses so can judge any business easily thanks to an online website called, “Yelp.”

When I was growing up if there was a new business my parents wanted to go to they made their own choice, took their own chances and you know what? It gave them back their own power of trust, not to mention courage and faith, great attributes wouldn’t you agree?

“Yelp” however has made it more convenient for anyone to browse a business that you’ve never been to without ever leaving home. All you have to do is check out the online reviews and if they give you a sense of comfort chances are that’s the business of choice. How easy is that?

It certainly worked for me when I was searching for a local auto body after my car accident a few years back, the reviews were spot on, and so was the excellent service I received. But not always do those reviews ring true.

I’ve worked in places where customers were encouraged to write a good review by the owner and in return they would receive a free service.

So what happened to just good old values?  When people felt confident about their business and customers were naturally happy to spread the word about their great experience?

Or maybe even a bad one.

And that’s where the real help, I mean “Yelp” comes in, because we all have our bad days, and things don’t always work out as planned, but it is in exercising our original attributes of trust, patience and courage that the real reviews are written.
