Founded in 1903, the Methodist Hospital is the preeminent hospital in Arcadia. The hospital holds a few notable distinctions: it was the first community hospital built in California to feature a psychiatric unit; it was the first Los Angeles hospital to embrace air conditioning; it also featured the first post-operative recovery room in the city. The hospital's mission is "to provide high-quality healing services while caring for the patient as a whole person with emotional and spiritual dimensions as well as physical needs."
