Bear Sighting, Plea Deal, SoCal Edison's $1 Billion Request

Five things to know today in Arcadia.

1) If you missed it on the site yesterday, a 2011 fatal stabbing case was resolved Tuesday with the assailant taking a 12-year plea deal for voluntary manslaughter.

2) An interesting story for SoCal Edison customers (that means Arcadia): the utility wants ratepayers to cover the more-than $1 billion cost of the closure of the San Onofre nuclear plant.

3) If you didn't read the weekly crime blotter to the end, you may have missed this bear sighting, which happened last week.  From the blotter: "Just after 3:20 p.m., an officer responded to the area of Elkins Avenue and Canyon Road in reference to a bear sighting. The officer located the bear in the driveway of a residence and fired a less lethal round to divert him back into the wilderness. After being struck, the animal fled the location out of sight."

4) A commenter on the update about a stranger found dead in a backyard pool last week in Arcadia notes that a dog who was also found in the backyard is at the Pasadena Humane Society and available for adoption (Editor's note: After following up with PHS, it turns out that a relative of the deceased picked up the dog and took him home - he is not at PHS or up for adoption).

5) If you are looking for something to do this weekend, check out our Arcadia Patch calendar.  If you don't find something there, the bigger city to the west also has its own Patch calendar with a few more options.
