Coroner: Bones Found at Arcadia Elementary Likely Belong to Cow

The county medical examiner's office determines that the bones found at Hugo Reid Elementary are not human.

Bones excavated at a local elementary school Monday morning appear are not human bones and appear to have come from a cow, a police official said.

The bones were examined at the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner after they were dug up by construction workers at Hugo Reid Elementary, Arcadia Police Sgt. Stephen Fallavollita said.

"They believe that they are cow bones," Fallavollita said. "They are definitely not human."

Fallavollita said the origin of the bones is unknown but noted they were buried quite deep and could trace back to when the area was a cattle ranch.

"There's no telling when those bones were laid down there," he said.

Crews were digging in the area to install a high pressure pipe for the school's new administration building.
